extra time

Short play created with students at Leighton Park School, 2019

'Take the penalty. Score the goal. Win the match.

Make Dad proud.'

Extra Time is a 30-minute solo piece that explores the link between football and masculinity in men as well as the relationship between a father and his 14-year-old son. It examined ideas of failure, toxic masculinity and parental pressure.

Extra Time was written in collaboration with students at Leighton Park School in Reading, Berkshire in Spring 2019. It was created through a series of workshops facilitated over a ten week period and performed by the students in June 2019.

This play was developed further by the school's Drama department in Autumn 2019 and went to the Independent Schools Association Drama Competition in March 2020, where the student performer won the 'Best Senior Performer' Award.
